Welcome from the Director
Welcome to the Graduate Centre! Whether you are a prospective student or currently studying with us – We encourage you to explore the many opportunities available to you as a UQ student in The Graduate Centre in Governance and International Affairs. The Graduate Centre was established in 2016 as a hub of graduate education in The School of Political Science and International Studies. We house innovative postgraduate programs in International Relations, Peace and Conflict Studies and in Governance and Public Policy. The Graduate Centre is also home to the School's Higher Degree by Research (MPhil and PhD) as well as the Rotary Peace Centre, one of only seven such centres in the world.
We are passionate about providing an environment where students get tailored opportunities and advice that helps to elevate their career to the next level. I’m joined by a dedicated team of academics and professional staff who provide a first-class learning experience – within and beyond the classroom. These include Mrs Diana McCluskey, Graduate Centre Manager, who manages our Centre, and can provide bespoke advice on internship opportunities, mentor programmes, developing your ‘personal brand’ on social media for career development, and various other information to help you get the most out of what UQ has to offer. Deputy Director, Dr Adam Hannah, manages the administration of all research thesis and reports, and can assist with decisions on how to include, and optimise, research pathways in your graduate programme.
Our Stream Leaders draw on their extensive academic and community experience to advise students on specific Postgraduate programmes: myself, A/Prof Alastair Stark, in Governance and Public Policy, Professor Shahar Hameiri in International Relations, and Dr DB Subedi in Peace and Conflict Studies.
Through innovative teaching, career development support, and the UQ Advantage, our Graduate Centre team aims to support students beyond the classroom to establish new networks in your professional life.
Our doors are always open to assist new and current students to navigate your learning journey at UQ.
