Bursaries and Prizes
The Wheatley Bursary
The scholarship is awarded to a financially disadvantaged mature-age second year student enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts or dual program that includes Arts, undertaking further studies in political science and/or public policy. Established in 2008 and maintained from the income of a bequest from the late Marcelle Walden.
Cleary Memorial Prize
This prize was established in 1976 as a memorial to the late Dr J.W. Cleary and maintained by the income from a fund of $1,135.76 subscribed by his former colleagues, students and friends.
- Prize recipient decided by: Head of School.
- Open to: any Honours student in the School.
- Criteria: greatest proficiency in the year.
- Prize consists of: books.
Josiah Francis Prize
This prize was established in 1967 by a gift of $400 by Lady Edna Clarke Francis in memory of the late Sir Josiah Francis, MP.
- Prize recipient decided by: Head of School
- Open to: any student
- Criteria: highest total marks in the School’s introductory course in Australian government (presently, POLS1101 Australian Political Institutions)
- Prize consists of: books
Margaret Cribb Memorial Prize
This prize was established in 1995 as a memorial to the late Mrs Margaret Cribb, former staff member of the School. It is maintained by the income accruing on the sum of donations made by her family, former colleagues and friends.
- Prize recipient decided by: Head of School
- Open to: any student
- Criteria: greatest proficiency in level 2 state government and industrial relations courses (presently, POLS2107 The Government of Queensland)
- Prize consists of: books
UQ Summer/Winter Research Program
The Summer and Winter Research Program is an opportunity for undergraduate, honours and postgraduate coursework students to get involved in exciting research projects within the school during the summer.
Applications for the 2021/22 Summer Research Program will open on 23 August 2021.
