Hi, I'm Elliot Stein. I was a graduate of the Master of Governance and Public Policy program at The University of Queensland. I'm now the Queensland Director of Hawker Britton. I chose the program at The University of Queensland because I wanted to take some of the experience I had in the workforce and go back and deepen my learning at the University through the masters program. Before I joined the program I had spent 10 years as a ministerial staffer for the Queensland Government including as a chief of staff in the Palaszczuk Government. I've really been able to take that masters program and have it open up opportunities for me that didn't otherwise exist. So, I've been able to move internationally, I lived and worked in New York for two years. At later stages of your career, employers do look for further postgraduate qualifications and the masters program for me was the best way to demonstrating the career experience that I had matched with lessons and skills development. When you looked across the breadth of the lecturers at The University of Queensland, particularly in the Public Policy and Governance space, you are dealing with people who are at the top of their profession, both in the academic world but also coming out of that practical, practitioner world. The Governance and Public Policy program is really critical for those who want to be part of the top tier of both decision making and policy development. If you believe that decisions are made by those who show up, you want those to show up to have the best skills that they possibly can and to have the best ability to get those best ideas as they possibly can and The University of Queensland provides that in droves.
