Mass atrocity prevention and human rights protection: Mr Ivan Šimonović, Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on the Responsibility to Protect

The Asia Pacific Centre for the Responsibility to Protect, located at UQ since 2008, welcomes the newly appointed United Nations Secretary-General's Special Adviser on the Responsibility to Protect, Mr Ivan Šimonović to The University of Queensland to deliver a public seminar 'Mass Atrocity Prevention and Human Rights Protection'.

Mr. Šimonović is the former Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights (2010 –2016 ) and Head of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in New York . Before joining the United Nations  Mr. Šimonović held the position of Minister for Justice of Croatia.  He was previously Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, where he served as President of the Economic and Social Council.
