New elective available

POLS1801 Introduction to Indigenous Issues is a new first year course offered in Semester 2 by the School of Political Science and International Studies.

The course addresses the relations between dominant political systems and Indigenous peoples.

You will be introduced to entanglements between dominant and Indigenous approaches to political order, law, policy, rights, knowledge, governance, community, conflict and diplomacy.

Taught through a varied format by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander academics, knowledge holders and community members in collaboration with core teaching staff, the course presents different perspectives on key tensions, concerns and questions of Indigenous/nonIndigenous relations in Australia and worldwide.

Emphasising interactive learning and creative analysis the course supports the development of understandings and skills to work across difference. The content, approach and skills learned are relevant to a wide range of study and career fields beyond political science.
