Presented by Roger Stahl (University of Georgia)

The Visual Politics Strategic Research Program invites you to a film screening of Through the Crosshairs: Reading the Weaponized Gaze by Roger Stahl. He is Associate Professor of Communication Studies at the University of Georgia. An online discussion with Roger will follow the screening. They seem to be everywhere: black-and-white clips of air strikes shot from their own targeting cameras. How do they come into public view? Whose interests does their circulation serve? And what does it mean that we now witness these diffuse wars through the very weapons that prosecute them? Tracking the history of satellite images, drones, smart bombs, helmet cams, Through the Crosshairs is a short film that shows how this “weaponized gaze” has come to colonize news and popular entertainment. It confronts a critical question: How can we begin to see otherwise?
