Flashpoint: The AUKUS Agreement and Beyond

Come along to this panel discussion on one of the most important defence and security policy developments in recent decades. Hear academics from the Graduate Centre in Governance and International Affairs and the T.C. Beirne School of Law discuss the AUKUS Agreement – which will see the delivery of conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines to Australia in the future.

The AUKUS announcement – and the recent outcome of the 2023 Defence Strategic Review – has sparked widespread debate about Australia’s foreign and defence policy settings in a changing Indo-Pacific regional order, as well as questions about compliance with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), and budget funding amidst domestic cost of living pressures and the role of former Prime Ministers in public policy debate.
