On the 18th February, the School hosted an afternoon tea to celebrate the inaugural award of the George Georges Summer Research Scholarship (awarded in Summer Semester 2014-2015), which honours the life and work of past Labor Senator George Georges. The scholarship was made possible by a generous donation from the Palm Sunday Rally for Peace Organisation.
The recipient, third-year undergraduate student John de Bhal, has been working on a project under the direction of Associate Professor Matt McDonald entitled “Ecological Security”. The project explores the possibility of approaching security in ecological terms, focusing on ecosystem resilience.
Head of School Associate Professor Richard Devetak thanked members of the organisation at the afternoon tea for their support of the scholarship and noted the School’s ongoing commitment to research in the broad area of peace and conflict studies.
